Luke turned 2 1/2 on Friday, and we seem to be potty training! This wasn't on my agenda. In fact, just last week I was joking with a family member about how we weren't even close and MARVELING at children Luke's age who are trained. I really thought Luke would potty train closer to age three. He has had a real lack of interest (or just two-year-old defiance) in using the potty lately, although he will occasionally use it and obviously knows how. On Thursday morning, Luke emphatically asked to wear his Thomas the Train underwear (a gift from grandma). I told him he could wear them if he used the potty. I fully expected the usual "NO!" This time, he ran straight to the potty and took care of business. Not wanting to go back on my promise, I put the underwear on him. Again, I was fully expecting an accident within an hour. No accidents. Hmmmm. I was starting to realize I may have underestimated him. We had a play date scheduled that morning. Now I was worried about what would happen in the car. Still no accidents. I put him down for a nap in a diaper. He woke up dry. I put him down for the night in a diaper. He woke up dry. Now our only hangup has been (not to be indelicate), the pooping. Luke's first setback came at Home Depot with Daddy, and you will just have to imagine the details on that one. This morning he was successful in that department and got a special toy reserved for that accomplishment.
This is younger than I expected, but he seems to be on track. I am prepared for success now or success later. I am really amazed! We are proud of Luke!

Now...where can we buy a pair of those poo-pants Robby was telling us about?
I am intrigued how you handled the whole situation. He was just ready, I suppose. That is great...I think boys are harder to potty train than girls...or so I have heard. Kids behind the older ones maybe learn a lot from them....though I think boys enjoy their bodily functions more..and like being cleaned up after. Is that sexist? Hmmm...
Hooray for Luke! What a big boy!
Tell Luke that we are so proud of him---gram and papa
Don't forget...the poo pants are a great option to fall back on if things get out of control. Just a thouhgt...
