On Sunday night she was running 105 degrees and I called the doctor--she suggested going in to a pediatric after hours clinic just to have bloodwork done to make sure that we weren't dealing with a more serious problem. Bloodwork was normal, with only very slightly elevated white count. Plan--continue the amoxicillin (this could also be viral and the strep test was an indication of a carrier state). By Wednesday she was still running a fever. We were scheduled to have her re-evaluated that morning at 10:45. On the way out the door to take Luke to camp, Caroline pulled our heavy sofa table over on top of her body and face. She was pinned underneath it! She was hysterical and had a bloody nose. A friend picked Luke up and grandma came over really quickly to watch Liam. I set out for the doctor's office, but they were not quite open yet. When C started falling asleep in the back seat, I made a decision to just go to the ER. I did not know where the table had crushed her exactly, and I was worried about a more serious head injury. At the ER, we determined that nothing was seriously wrong and that we would need to evaluate her nose when the swelling went down--no obvious fracture, however. I later talked to our pediatrician on the phone who decided to switch C's antibiotic to cefdinir in case she had strep that was not being adequately treated by the amox. Fever was gone the next morning. Either it worked, or she had a virus that ran its course!
Here is a photo taken about 3 hours after the accident.

Here is a photo from day 2. The full rainbow kept developing for a few days!

So, thinking that our crazy week was behind us, we headed out with friends to a restaurant on Friday. Just as we were finishing our meal and chatting, Caroline had 3 fingers smashed in the hinge side of the patio door while Luke pulled it shut. Ouch! It was a shriek even worse than the one she made when pinned under the table! We had an opportunity to visit yet another pediatric after hours clinic. She had an xray, which the doctor initially did not want to take. She was diagnosed with a tuft fracture of the distal phalanx--a small break in the fingertip of her right ring finger. We are to keep it wrapped and comfortable, but the injury is minor.
If bad things come in 3's, I think we are finished for awhile!
