Some pics of our shantung maple budding out! So pretty. Our house was built in the '60s and it had lots of large trees when we bought it. As we learned more about gardening and landscaping, we realized *all* the trees were hackberries and mulberries (JUNK trees). The mulberry was too close to the house and falling apart, so we replaced it with this maple. The hackberries were close to the power lines and looked like large pipe cleaners due to repeated pruning by the power company. We also had one American elm--which split apart in a storm. So, now we have two *little* trees! Our other baby (chinese pistachio) hasn't budded out yet, but it should soon!
