Luke's first report card

From his teacher: "Luke is a bright student who enjoys spinning a tale! He listens and follows directions well. He narrates on stories using author's language and sequential details. Luke has made much progress saying goodbye to mom in the mornings!"

He received almost all checks (met expectations) with a few P's (acceptable progress) and no I's (improvement needed). We are very pleased with Covenant so far and are delighted with the environment and materials he is experiencing. He has been adjusting to the length of his days and seems less exhausted in the afternoons than he did initially.

At his conference I was able to look at his two journals in which he draws pictures. One is for classical music pieces and the other is for fairy tales. I was actually impressed (surprised, actually) to see the quality of his artwork. The books will make such nice mementos when the year is over.

When I asked Luke what was the best thing he has learned at Covenant that he did not know before, he said "handwriting." That surprised me also! He is definitely having a burst of progress with handwriting and general dexterity with coloring and artwork. He seems to enjoy drawing more than he did previously. (He only used to scribble. He calls it scribble scrabble).

Luke loves to get his homework done RIGHT AWAY when he gets home from school on Tuesdays. His homework is a weekly packet due the following Tuesday, but he can't stand having it hanging over his head.

I'm digging the homework habit. I noticed that he was super eager to get it done last time I visited. I was kind of like, "Don't you want to save some of it for later?" But he was all about it. Good work ethics start early, I suppose.
