Last Thursday we headed to the local spray park to meet a play group of neighborhood kids that has recently formed. Luke has been going through a phase where he is quite negative about new things and more hesitant than he was before. This came out of the blue and has really been tough. He suddenly hates water, swimming, new places, and the little sports class we are signed up for (our only paid activity this summer, chosen with such care and attended with high hopes. . .). So, at the spray park he totally refused to get wet and just sat in the grass and baked. However, when we got home I was watering some plants that looked pretty pitiful in the heat and he decided to hop into the spray. "?????" I was thinking!

We are trying to be patient with his hesitation and worry lately, but it has also meant lots of tears and shrieking when we suggest leaving the house and other crazy things like that. Anyway, I think he does need to learn to deal with his negative emotions, so we aren't bailing him out of sports camp. We shall see how the water anxiety develops, and I hope that his fall initiation into his first preschool class will go more smoothly.

So sorry about the stress. We are dealing with similar probs with Owen and bed time. He used to go so peacefully and now? Hours upon hours of screaming. Maybe it has something to do with over-active imaginations all of a sudden?
LOVE the third pic, the one of Caroline enjoying the spray!
